Muriel, resident at the DurhamGate
The DurhamGate proudly presents our very first resident feature.
Muriel came to us just before Christmas 2023 for respite care, she has enjoyed her stay so much that she has decided to stay with us. We couldn’t be prouder, to know that Muriel calls the DurhamGate, home.
In the following video Muriel talks about her life before choosing to move into care. What makes her happy and how it feels living in an Adore Care Home. This video is testomony to the hard work, love and compassion our team puts in to the care our residents receive.
We don’t think we can say it any better than Muriel has, “You’re treated as a friend and not as a number!” Our fixtures and fittings may be of a high standard, but it’s our levels of care that truly set us apart.

Mrs V enquired of Adore Care Homes, Weavers Court after seeing our advert in the “On Your Doorstep” neighbourhood magazine. She explained; “My Mum recently lost our dad, who cared for her daily and we are looking for care as we can’t be there 24/7.” Her enquiry came through to Charlotte Schofield, our Front of House Manager.
Charlotte is experienced in this role having previously worked with one of the UK’s leading providers of care home accommodation. She recognised the inner cry for help from Mrs T and empathetically listened to her story. Charlotte understood all too well the two losses that Mrs V was and is still going though. Firstly, a father who has passed away but secondly the gradual loss of a mother who, without her spouse, is beginning to pine and wither.
Mrs V commented to Charlotte that she felt that someone had properly taken the time to listen and talk to her about her situation. Moreover, she appreciated that there was no “sales drive” from Charlotte who simply said that she would offer Mrs V the early opportunity to come and look at Weavers Court first hand and that Mrs V could call her any time to talk about her Mum.
Mrs G telephoned to enquire about living at Weavers Court and explained “I’m living at home alone and my daughter comes to help me, but I’m needing a lot more help and I’m not always eating enough but I do like good quality food”
This enquiry was handled by one of the senior members of the Adore team, who explained to Mrs G that all our food is to be prepared freshly on site and we have already formed relationships with local butchers, bakery and fruit and vegetable suppliers. As a care home of course, we have to be able to effectively measure the nutritional content of all meals and ensure that a well balanced diet is maintained. This is without sacrifice to quality and choice and resident’s personal tastes and favourite dishes will always be accommodated.
We went on to explain that we selected our Head Chef by holding a cookery audition, utilising exactly the same kitchen in one of our sister care homes. We had given our short listed candidates a bag of ingredients each and asked them to prepare two main courses and a pudding. The results were fantastic and our selected Head Chef, Lewis, prepared some delicious food that was enjoyed by residents in the care home where the audition was held.
Mr R lives on his own. He is looking for a care home as he wants to be able to choose the placement for himself. Once a publican and an engineer by profession, he now lives on his own and is diabetic. He would like to find a care home where he does not have to worry about anything.
Our General Manager, Mariyam Jogi, spent time with Mr R on the telephone and then arranged to see him in his own home setting. Here she was able to get a good impression of Mr R’s lifestyle, living standards and values as well as being able to assess his physical care needs.
Mariyam took the time to explain about the recruitment program at Weavers Court, who we have appointed so far and their roles, even explaining about our special “Care Manager”, a role unique to the Adore family of care businesses and one conceived by the Adore owners.
Mariyam also showed Mr R through our virtual tour and after the visit he said “I am impressed by what I see and hear and would like to be part of the Weavers Court family.”
